Welcome to the Sunlight Initiative, where we champion the belief that education is a fundamental right for every student. The public school system is facing unprecedented challenges, with nationwide funding shortages totaling nearly $150 billion. In our own district, a $15-million deficit has resulted in the cancellation of vital school programs. Pieces of legislation which directly harms public schools (like school-choice bills) has also become more prominent. Our mission is to fight for more resources being allocated to our public school system by spreading awareness and collecting donations. Through our book drives, fundraising events, protests, email campaigns, and our network of high school students dedicated to fighting for stronger public education, we strive to bridge the learning gap and empower students with the knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive.
